Career Development For Musicians with Refugee Backgrounds Tuesday 19 October 2021

A free event explored the barriers musicians with refugee backgrounds face and how support organisations and venues can better support them.

The event connected musicians from refugee backgrounds, people and organisations who work to support them, and music venues that had ideas on how more opportunities could be created.

The afternoon’s session posed a number of questions for discussion and the attendees developed some solutions.

How can barriers be addressed and overcome?

What support do refugee background musicians at the different stages of their careers – from people newly arrived in the UK to those with more established careers – need?

What action needs to be taken?

The speakers at the event were Emmanuela Yogolelo on behalf of Amani Creatives and independent music producer, Sashwati Sengupta.

The FREE Zoom event was presented in partnership with Amani Creatives, Community Arts North West and Counterpoints Arts as part of Platforma 6
