The category recognises the value, commitment and contribution of organisations to the work readiness of college students.
CAN’s work with The Manchester College began in 2022.
Our project has given experience to 20 students drawn from courses in Makeup and artistry, photography, music, dance, drama and theatre.
The group of students supported CAN Young Artists in a programme that develops the creative skills of young people from new migrant backgrounds, some of whom have lived experience of forced migration and young people from Manchester’s host communities. The projects, co-created with the young people, respond to themes that matter to them, such as identity and making a home in Manchester.
Michelle Udogu, Creative Producer for the CAN Young Artists’ strand, attended the award with our student placement Blanca Corbelli. Blanca is a second-year student at East 15 Acting School.
Michelle says
“We are delighted that our work with students at the college has been celebrated with this award.”
“It’s a great honour for CAN, and it was an absolute pleasure to work with such a talented and committed group of students who supported the project, using their incredible talents and commitment.”
“The students worked alongside professional artists, which is so important.”
“At a time when young people from diverse and working-class backgrounds are increasingly under-represented in the arts and creative industries workforce and in higher education, we’re proud that our work with both the students and the young people taking part in our CAN Young Artists programme gives experience and insights into the different pathways into creative careers.”
