CAN Young Artists visit Manchester Animation Festival

Huge thanks to the festival for inviting the group to the UK’s largest celebration of animation

21 November 2022

Hosted at different Manchester venues including HOME, the festival brings UK and international film-makers and fans together for a five-day-long celebration of all things animation.

Thank you to Hannah Campbell, Audience Development Manager at Manchester Animation Festival for arranging free tickets for CAN Young Artists. The group comprises young people from the city’s host and Sudanese, Pakistani, Kuwaiti, and Iranian communities, including those with refugee heritage.

Young people, friends and family enjoyed time at HOME over the weekend of 18 – 20 November watching films, including the hit 3D computer-animated fantasy-comedy The Amazing Maurice and met the goofy streetwise cat, Maurice, ‘in person’. The group loved the meet-up with Maurice and sent in a photo.

The group was part of the audience for the Young Animator of the Year Award ceremony and watched the film My Father’s Dragon.

Thank you to the team at HOME for making the group feel so welcome on their first visit to the venue.

CAN welcomes opportunities for the communities we work with to visit different venues and experience Manchester’s rich arts and music scene.

If you want to welcome diverse and under-represented young audiences to your venue or event, please contact CAN’s Young People’s Creative Producer, Michelle Udogu.
