Films from a busy Summer of activity for Exodus

Despite lockdown we've been busy working with refugee and asylum seeker artists, communities and our partner HOME.

On Saturday 12 June 2021, just over six weeks ago (it feels like yesterday!), the Horizons Festival, the week-long event we curate with HOME every year to celebrate June’s Refugee Week, kicked off with Solidarity Social at HOME’s socially distanced outdoor space Homeground.

Here’s the film of the event.

If you were there, you can enjoy the sunshine once more and if you missed out, you’ll get a flavour of the fantastic music and spoken word that launched the festival.

And as part of Horizons this year, three films under the title Campaign and Take Action were made to celebrate the work of the different organisations in Manchester working with the region’s refugee artists, campaigning to change perceptions, and supporting refugees and asylum seekers.

Rethink Rebuild talk about their work celebrating the creativity of the refugee and asylum seeker Syrian community in the North West.

RAS Voice share the reality of being an asylum seeker or refugee in the UK and call for a greater understanding of the struggles they face.

GM Migrant Fund profile their vital work supporting destitute refugees and asylum seekers.

And if those four films aren’t enough, you can watch a film from long-time CAN collaborators Afrocats, where young women talk through spoken word and movement about the importance of protest inspired by 2021’s theme for Refugee Week – #WeCannotWalkAlone.

We hope you enjoy them.
