Libraries of Sanctuary Welcome Days

In 2020 - 2021, CAN will programme a series of Welcome events in libraries across Greater Manchester designed and curated by refugee-heritage artists.

12 February 2020

Greater Manchester is a vibrant and international region, where generations of people from all over the world have settled. This makes our region one of the most culturally exciting places to live in the UK.

CAN’s Exodus programme brings people together to celebrate this cultural richness and create a warm welcome in our region.

In 2020 – 2021, CAN will programme a series of Welcome Days, designed and curated by refugee-heritage artists, inviting people to their local libraries to see great art, enjoy creativity and make new connections. The project has been created through a collaboration with the Libraries of Greater Manchester and City of Sanctuary

Every week, CAN’s team meets amazing artists from across the globe who’ve made Manchester their home and we’ve commissioned a group of these artists to design Welcome Days to support the Sanctuary ethos.

City of Sanctuary UK supports a network of over 100 towns, cities and villages, that share the vision that the UK will be a welcoming place of safety for all.  As part of this growing initiative, several libraries the length and breadth of the UK have become Libraries of Sanctuary and that number is growing.
