URBAN MUSIC THEATRE PROJECT - WORKSHOPS

Scriptwriting group

As part of the 2008 Urban Music Theatre Project, CAN developed a scriptwriting/steering group of 20 young people aged 13-18 who led, moulded, developed and inspired the whole process of the theatre program.

The scriptwriting group was facilitated and steered Chris Sudworth - Director, Joe Harrison- Music Director & Composer and Richard Ramchurn - Digital Artist, to begin to create ideas, themes and stories which will ultimately feed into the script life of the theatre program.

Choir/vocal group

As part of the 2008 program, UMPT recruited young people aged 13-18 from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, as well as those young people from host backgrounds, into a new, funky, exciting choir. The vocal group was based at the City Centre Project on Oldham Street and led by vocal artist Yvonne Shelton.

This group fed into the project as one of the main elements of the musical score and will be inspired by the idea of a 'A Greek Chorus'. The vocal group wrote, sang & performed as the voice of music, story and passion throughout the theatre performance.
