Exodus

Exodus, CAN’s refugee arts programme, has been running since 2004.

Exodus is a dynamic programme of participatory cultural production, working with refugees and host communities across a range of traditional and contemporary art forms. It has a strong focus on cross cultural collaborative production, and brings together a great mix of people and partnerships to work creatively together in shared arenas. Exodus draws upon the rich heritage and experiences of Greater Manchester’s diverse communities.

Since its inception, Exodus has been significant in creating a voice and cultural expression for refugee communities new to our region. Its diverse programme has included highlights such as the Exodus Festival, Exodus Live music programmes, Exodus Shorts digital arts & filmmaking, new writing, original theatre and live performance, including the Exodus Onstage theatre seasons in 2006 and 2010.

Exodus has also included a comprehensive training and capacity building programme which has seeded an impressive number & range of independent creative projects and artists who have gone on to contribute exciting new culture to the North West region and beyond.
